The Baidarka or Aleutian sea kayak is reputed to have been the most seaworthy of ocean going vessels. An Aluet paddler bundled in furs and waterproof seal skins could paddle in bad weather, big waves being no problem because they could just roll over letting the wave pass over and then right themselves. These vessels/ paddlers were conscripted into fleets of as large as 300 boats by Russian fur traders hunting Otter whose skins were worth a kings ransom in the 17th,18th and 19th centuries. These fleets would travel as far south as the SanFrancisco bay on expeditions lasting as long as 2 years! This boat is 22" wide by 17' by 16" deep. Made from western red cedar veneer, carbon fiber and kevlar, weight is 40lbs
